Edward Selematsela
Edward Selematsela is from the Limpopo province of South Africa and studied art and business at Eastside College and The University of South Africa. His highly acclaimed work has generated international notoriety, attracting collectors from America, Europe and the new Middle East. In 1997 he received the merit of excellence award from the French Culture Centre in Pessac, Bordeaux, France. In 2007 Edward was presented with top honours at the South African “Black Like Us” art competition, affording him the opportunity to appear on television and in newspapers worldwide. For 13 years, Selematsela has invested in the next generation by volunteering as a part-time teacher at a small art school in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. Over the course of his tenure, he has watched many of his students develop into award-winning artists. One of Edward’s premiere students was a young man by the name of Lazarus Ramontseng. Early on, Lazarus showed incredible aptitude and promise as an aspiring artist. United by a common love and passion for art, the two of them partnered and founded EdLaz Art Studio in Marshalltown Johannesburg.
