Frances Wedepohl

Frances Wedepohl was born in Port Elizabeth in 1964 and grew up in Johannesburg, where she still lives and paints. She loved  expressing herself from an early age, drawing everything and on anything. She pursued art to matric. Her dream was to study Fine Arts but her dad thought differently. She chose to study Architectural Draughting which drew her in and nourished her love of line and shape. She’d found herself at home with a pen or pencil in her hand – this was before computers took over.

In the 1990s she lived in Philadephia, USA for several years where she learned the art of cake decorating. This passion and raising her family took center stage until 2004 when she started painting with Revann Bos.

She is largely self-taught, inspired by the lines and shapes of the beautiful South African landscape with its unique colours, textures and light. She also enjoys painting figures and portraits. Her favourite medium is oils although she also works in acrylics. She uses small brushes, sketching with them and then adding strokes of paint to pick up colours and textures and moods.

Frances has work in galleries around Johannesburg and has taken part in various exhibitions in the larger Johannesburg area. She has also done a number of commissions.
